Electronic prescriptions are convenient
Since the beginning of 2017, doctors have issued all prescriptions electronically apart from a few exceptional cases. However, e-prescriptions have been introduced in stages already since 2011.

In 2017: 61.4 million drug dispensing events – 80 log data queries
E-prescriptions have been issued since 2010. In 2017, the number of prescriptions issued was 31.9 million, which resulted in 61.4 drug dispensing events. Kela’s Kanta services received about 80 log data requests from the Prescription Centre in 2017.

Kanta has improved patient data protection
The national Kanta services are a key basis for smooth and safe sharing of patient data throughout the healthcare supply chain. The Kanta services have considerably increased transparency in the processing of data. Previously, it was not easy for patients to access information that has been recorded on them in the healthcare services. Now this data can be checked in My Kanta Pages. The service also makes it possible to see when and which healthcare unit has processed the information.

An accredited information security inspection body has certified the latest Kanta services, which are the client data archive for social welfare services and the My Kanta Pages Personal Health Record.

Develop an application for Kanta PHR – soon citizens can share their own wellbeing information with doctors by mobile phone
In the future, it will be possible for citizens to save their own wellbeing information in the My Kanta Pages Personal Heath Record (Kanta PHR) using various applications. It will be possible to save blood pressure and exercise monitoring data, for example, in the service using a mobile application. In the future, citizens may also, if they wish, share information directly with their doctor. At the Slush startup and tech event, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health will announce a design competition for application developers, aimed at finding new kinds of ap-plications to utilise Kanta PHR. The winners will be awarded a cash prize.

Patient Data Repository stores and shares data
The majority of patients already have data accumulated in the Patient Data Repository of the Kanta services since 2012. So far, over 2.2 million citizens have viewed their own data in the service.

According to a survey commissioned by the Association of Finnish Pharmacies, the Finnish Medical Association and the Pharmaceutical Information Centre, e-prescriptions and My Kanta Pages have become established as part of the healthcare services.

Kanta - a database for all citizens
Kanta services are being developed into a database for all citizens. In future, client data from social welfare services will also be included in the service in addition to citizens’ health data. The services will become easier to use as the information is available regardless of the time or the place. This may also improve the quality of care.

Kanta.fi awarded as the best mobile service for health and well-being in SuomiAreena
The best Finnish mobile services were awarded in SuomiAreena in Pori. Kanta.fi was the winner of the category for health and well-being services. According to the panel of judges, providing access to the citizens’ health data on a one-stop shop principle acts as a basis for new healthcare service concepts and supports their development. Due to its mobile scalability, it is also more efficient to use the kanta.fi service.
