The COVID-19 passport and the reader application of the COVID-19 certificate are no longer in use in Finland

Notice Written on 1.6.2022 All notices

Use of the COVID-19 passport, aka the EU COVID-19 Certificate and its reader application, which were introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, is being discontinued at events and restaurants in Finland.

A valid COVID-19 certificate may still be needed for foreign travel. You can remove the COVID-19 certificate reader application from your telephone yourself.

The COVID-19 certificate has served as the EU's COVID-19 passport, which has been checked using the THL COVID-19 certificate reader application. The reader application was developed for the use of restaurants, night clubs, public events, and other event organisers.

In the current epidemic situation, the reasons for using a COVID passport no longer exist and the use of the COVID certificate reader application is being discontinued. The COVID certificate reader application can no longer be downloaded as of 1 June.

Remove the reader application from your phone yourself

The reader application does not delete itself. Users must remove it from their own phones themselves. When the Reader stops functioning, the application will show the user only the Thank You page.

The reader application was introduced in October 2021. THL was responsible for the technical implementation of the QR code in the reader application with funding and guidance from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. Solita was responsible for the technical development of the application.

COVID Certificate still in use for foreign travel

Although the EU COVID Certificate will no longer be used in Finland, it may still be needed for travel. If you are going on a trip abroad, check to see if the destination country requires travellers to show a COVID Certificate.

You can download the COVID-19 Certificate from My Kanta. The EU COVID-19 Certificate includes three certificates: a certificate of COVID-19 vaccination, a certificate of a negative test result or a certificate of having recovered from COVID-19.
