Electronic medical and prescription records and the flow of data between healthcare organisations are important for good care and patient security. Data security in the Kanta Services is monitored and developed further on a continual basis.
Optometrists and ophthalmologists can make use of clients' eye health data in Kanta Services in support of treatment. Citizens can also view their records easily in My Kanta Pages.

With a living will, you can ensure that your personal wishes are taken into account in situations where you are no longer able to express your wishes. It is also possible to record your expression of intent via My Kanta Pages.
Certificates and reports saved in the Patient Data Repository of the Kanta Services can be delivered to organisations outside the healthcare service when this functionality has been deployed in the patient data system.

Kanta has been created for its users. The Kanta Services are used by professionals working in pharmacies and in social and welfare services. Organisations representing various occupational groups are actively working together with the Kanta Services.
About half of the total adult population in Finland have used the My Kanta Pages service. In 2018, the service was accessed by more than two million people, and just under a quarter of them (23%) live in the Helsinki region.
Authorisation for outsourcing service providers is a functionality in the Patient Data Repository of the Kanta Services, through which the outsourcing service organisers and providers are able to share the required patient data quickly and safely.
The Kanta Services have been updating the instructions on data communication links between the clients' technical access points and the Kanta Services. A private network connection must be used when joining the service in order to guarantee availability and quality of services.
Older people may find it challenging to use My Kanta Pages and various public e-services. How can we get everyone on board when services move to the internet?
The number of My Kanta users continues to grow – year 2018 the number was over 2.1 million.
Prescriptions are processed easily in the electronic format as it is a safe method and information is kept secure. In Finland, all prescriptions and medicine dispensations are made electronically in the Kanta Services.
In the Kanta Services, the client data archive for social welfare services gathers client data into a national central archive. A uniform knowledge base is a key to a high standard of knowledge management.
In the Kanta Services, data travels through several different systems. How do you ensure smooth cooperation between various operators?
My Kanta Pages is a citizens’ own online service that shows the patient’s information and medication recorded by healthcare services. In 2018, My Kanta Pages of the Kanta Services had more than 2.1 million users. The total number of logins into My Kanta Pages last year was about 16.8 million.
E-prescriptions and the resulting changes are already part of the everyday life of pharmacies.
Citizens can monitor their own health and wellbeing with the My Kanta Pages Personal Health Record (Kanta PHR). The data will also be useful in the healthcare services in the future.
It will soon be possible to buy medicines prescribed in Finland in pharmacies in Estonia using an electronic prescription. The service will also be gradually extended to other European countries
