In the future, kanta.fi web service users will be asked for their permission to use cookies
The kanta.fi website is introducing a cookie notification to ask the user for permission to store web analytics cookies. Web analytics cookies are only used on the kanta.fi website, not in the MyKanta online service, where you need to log in with your online banking credentials or other equivalent identification method.

The My Kanta Pages online service will be changed to the more modern version MyKanta. The Finnish, Swedish and Sámi names of the service will also change.

There are a lot of scam messages in circulation at the moment as criminals try to access Finnish personal data. The Kanta Services will never contact users by email or text message to ask for their information. The only way to log in securely to the My Kanta Pages is to go to www.kanta.fi.

Kanta Services provide information for the development of social welfare services
The secondary use of social welfare client data is now progressing in leaps and bounds. In the next few years, the wellbeing services counties will be able to utilise nationally comprehensive and up-to-date monitoring data on social welfare. Data on the time periods when clients had an active client relationship with social welfare and the services they were provided will be collected during 2023 on the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare’s social welfare monitoring register.

From 1 January 2023, using a Finnish electronic prescription to purchase medicines in another EU country will no longer require your consent to the sharing of prescription data.

The secondary use of Kanta data has expanded during 2022. The expanding secondary use of Kanta data in research and knowledge-based management benefits society as a whole. Kela is continually developing the Kanta data platform, through which national social welfare and health care data capital can easily be obtained for secondary use with a high level of data security.

The Kanta Services will expand and become more versatile as citizens’ needs change and new laws enter into force. In 2023, development and deployment of the Kanta Services will focus on implementing the Client Data Act and the Kanta medication list. Development work is guided by the data needs created by the national health and social services reform as well as the secondary use of data content and knowledge management.

The new Kanta information includes updated details about Kanta Services, the storage of your customer data in the Kanta services and the use of your data in social welfare and healthcare services.

Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, and Kela: Phase 1 of the Kanta medication list must be in use by 30 September 2023
Phase 1 of the Kanta medication list, which includes the 2022 version of the Pharmaceutical Database, was rolled out for use in production at the Prescription Centre in May 2022. There will be an extension to the deployment phase for health care services until 30 September 2023.

Universal reissue of Kanta information
When the wellbeing services counties start their operations on 1 January 2023, a client’s data can be utilised and used more extensively than before in connection with healthcare treatment or social welfare service. When the wellbeing services counties begin operations and a temporary right of access to data is applied in the Uusimaa region, all citizens will be issued with new information about the Kanta Services.

Assignors can now authorise trusted persons to use digital services on their behalf even if the assignor does not have online banking codes
With the help of Suomi.fi e-Authorizations, you can give a trusted person permission to act on your behalf in MyKanta. Previously, Suomi.fi e-Authorizations required the assignor to identify themselves using online banking codes, for example. The service is now also available to those who are not able to use electronic services themselves.

EU Digital COVID Certificates will be issued until 30 June 2023
The EU has extended the regulation on the EU Digital COVID Certificate by one year until 30 June 2023. The regulation will ensure free movement in the EU even if the COVID-19 situation deteriorates in the future. All travellers should still check beforehand whether their country of destination requires the certificate upon arrival or for using services.

It has been possible to apply for permits to use health and social data stored in the Kanta Services for secondary use since 1 January 2021. The range of data available for secondary use, such as scientific research, has expanded considerably during spring 2022.
