Health and social services reform and the Kanta Services

In the health and social services reform, 21 wellbeing service counties began operations in Finland. The reform will also require future wellbeing service counties to take measures concerning the use of the Kanta Services.

In the reform of the social welfare, healthcare and rescue services, the responsibility for organising the previously municipal social welfare and healthcare services was transferred to the wellbeing service counties from the beginning of 2023. The Kanta Services is a part of the wellbeing service counties’ digital services and health and social services information management.

The wellbeing service counties have scheduled the changes to be made to client and patient data systems in cooperation with the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare THL and the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela). The changes will be made in early 2023 during a transition period agreed separately with each wellbeing services county.
