Old patient data

The Patient Data Repository can also be used to store patient data that was created prior to joining Kanta. This is called old patient data.

Social welfare and healthcare service providers can also store patient data in Kanta that were recorded in the information systems before the Patient Data Repository was deployed. In this case, the data will be stored in the Patient Data Repository as old patient data. It is also possible to store data recorded after the deployment of the repository as old data if it was not previously stored in the Patient Data Repository.

Administrative documents, data from the data file used for patient data management and log data cannot be stored in the Patient Data Repository.

Using old patient data

A social welfare and health care professional can use the old patient data in their customer work by using a data viewer for old data provided by the system provider. In addition, a person acting in the role of Kanta archivist will be able to view the old patient data in the Archivist’s user interface. For example, Kanta archivists can verify whether the data has been stored correctly and, if necessary, invalidate old documents.

Old patient data is primarily available to the social welfare and healthcare service provider on whose register the data was stored. For this reason, old patient data cannot be transferred to another service provider via the Kanta Services. However, it is possible to share old data in other ways, for example, as paper documents, if the customer has given their consent to data sharing.

Patient data saved as old data is not visible to the client in MyKanta. However, the customer has the right to request their patient data from their healthcare or social welfare service provider.

How to start storing old patient data

You can deploy the functionality once your organisation has joined as a user of the Patient Data Repository.

Choose the method for storing old patient data that best suits your organisation's situation.

  • Storing old patient data from a patient information system
    • You can store old patient data directly from your patient information system into the Patient Data Repository, provided your system supports this functionality. If needed, consult your system provider.
  • Storing old patient data using a separate system
