Guidelines for professionals on providing information about the Kanta Services

Information about the Kanta Services means providing social welfare and healthcare clients with information about the Kanta Services and how clients’ data is processed in healthcare and social welfare services. If the client has not confirmed receipt of the information about the Kanta Services, the client must be provided with the information at their appointment.

Information about the Kanta Services is given to social welfare and healthcare clients in order to inform them about the Kanta Services, how their data is processed, and their right to influence how their data is shared.

What does the provision of information about the Kanta Services affect?

Once a client has received the information about the Kanta Services, they can

  • give or update their consent to data sharing
  • set up denials of consent to data sharing.

Once the client has received version 1.1 or 2.0 of the information about the Kanta Services, their patient data will also be available to public healthcare service providers anywhere in the Uusimaa region.

A client’s data must be entered in the Kanta Services even if they have not received the latest information about the Kanta Services.

A professional must provide the client with the information if the client has not confirmed receipt of the information in MyKanta

If your client has not received the latest information about the Kanta Services in MyKanta, please issue the information to them at their appointment.

The information system you use will recognise that the client has not received the information and guide you in providing the client with the information. Once you have given the information to your client, record it in the information system so that it is stored in Kanta.

How do I tell the client about the information about the Kanta Services?

You can provide the information about the Kanta Services to your client

  • orally
  • in writing
  • through the e-service.

Your employer must draw up instructions on how to issue information about the Kanta Services. When you provide the information, you can use the Kanta Services and use of client data in healthcare and social welfare services leaflet (pdf)(opens new window).

The client can confirm receipt of the information about the Kanta Services in MyKanta

If the client has not already confirmed receipt of the latest information about the Kanta Services, the information will automatically open once they have logged in to MyKanta. In MyKanta, you can also acknowledge receipt of the information about the Kanta Services when managing affairs on behalf of another person.

Social welfare services do not yet provide information about the Kanta Services

In social welfare, information about the Kanta Services must be provided if you have a client information system that allows you to retrieve other social welfare service providers client data from Kanta.

Frequently asked questions about data sharing and providing information about the Kanta Services

Information about the Kanta Services will be given to the client again when the content of the information is updated. For example, significant changes in the law may affect the content of the information provided. The client must be provided with the new information, even if they have already confirmed receipt of the previous information.
