Acting on behalf of another adult is now possible in My Kanta Pages

Notice - Professionals Written on 25.3.2021 All notices

The everyday lives of many people will become easier as it is now possible to view the health data of another adult in My Kanta Pages. For this purpose, you need a mandate with Suomi.fi e-authorisation. It is also possible to use the same mandate for a number of other online healthcare channels.

Acting on behalf of an adult is a desired feature that enables even more diverse use of My Kanta Pages. The mandate can be granted in the Suomi.fi service to a person who is of age or legally competent.

The assignee is given almost the same rights to act in My Kanta Pages as the assignor of the mandate.

“The assignee can, for example, renew prescriptions and view the results of laboratory tests,” says Mari Holmroos, Specialist in the Kanta Services.

However, the assignee cannot process organ donation testaments, living wills or wellbeing data.

Although people of all ages, including senior citizens, have widely adopted the use of My Kanta Pages, there are many situations where acting on behalf of another person brings its benefits.

“An elderly person or someone who has been taken ill may need help. For some people, it may be difficult to start using new digital services. In these examples, it may be sensible that someone else will act on behalf of the person,” Holmroos assesses.

For the time being, guardians cannot act on behalf of an adult principal in My Kanta Pages. Moreover, a person who does not have means of electronic authentication cannot grant the mandate. The Digital and Population Data Services Agency is currently investigating how to grant a mandate in these cases. The objective is that the implementation schedule will be specified further during 2021.

Other health-related matters can also be managed with one mandate

In My Kanta Pages, it is possible to act on behalf of another adult with the mandate “Managing matters related to healthcare” in Suomi.fi. The mandate entitles the assignee to view, notify and receive information related to the assignor’s health status in the healthcare services and to book appointments in the healthcare system on behalf of another person in various online services.

Those who already have this mandate will automatically be able to act on behalf of another person in My Kanta Pages. If they so wish, the mandate can be cancelled in the Suomi.fi service.
