Use of COVID-19 passport subject to restrictions – COVID Certificate can still be used when travelling

The use of the EU Digital COVID Certificate as a COVID-19 passport will be temporarily restricted in areas in the community transmission phase between 30 December 2021 and 20 January 2022.

During this time, it is not possible to use the COVID-19 passport as an alternative to regional restrictions in public events and customer premises. Regional authorities will decide on restrictions in their areas.

The restriction of the use of the COVID-19 passport applies to areas in the community transmission phase, i.e. the hospital districts of Helsinki and Uusimaa, Southwest Finland, Satakunta, Kanta-Häme, Pirkanmaa, Päijät-Häme, Kymenlaakso, South Karelia, South Savo, North Savo, Central Finland, Vaasa, South Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia, Northern Ostrobothnia, Länsi-Pohja, and Lapland.

From Friday 31 December 2021, the COVID-19 passport cannot be used as an alternative to regional restrictions on public events and customer premises in the hospital districts of East Savo and North Karelia. 

From Friday 7 January 2022, the COVID-19 passport cannot be used as an alternative to regional restrictions on public events and customer premises in Åland.

EU Digital COVID Certificate can still be used when travelling

The EU Digital COVID Certificate, which can be downloaded from My Kanta Pages, will still be valid for use when travelling. In different countries, the COVID certificates may have different criteria and periods of validity. Travellers must always find out the COVID-19 restrictions and practices in the country of destination before travelling.
