Universal reissue of Kanta information

Notice - Developers Written on 2.11.2022 All notices

When the wellbeing services counties start their operations on 1 January 2023, a client’s data can be utilised and used more extensively than before in connection with healthcare treatment or social welfare service. When the wellbeing services counties begin operations and a temporary right of access to data is applied in the Uusimaa region, all citizens will be issued with new information about the Kanta Services.

Clients will receive new Kanta information from 22 November 2022 through My Kanta Pages or when they engage with healthcare services. When the client logs in to My Kanta Pages, a notification text will open in a new window on the front page. Clients or persons acting on their behalf will only be able to access My Kanta Pages after confirming that they have received Kanta information.

In healthcare, a professional can acknowledge that Kanta information has been received once the required updates are ready and deployed in the patient information system. In this case, the patient information system will also recognize the receipt of the Kanta information and the version of the information.

A social welfare service professional may also acknowledge the new Kanta information as received once the necessary updates are complete on the client data system. The client must always be issued with the latest version of the Kanta information.

Introduction of Kanta information in healthcare

If the patient has not yet received the new Kanta information in My Kanta Pages, and the service provider’s own patient information system does not yet allow the new Kanta information to be saved for the patient, patient data can still be shared from Kanta services between the wellbeing services counties and between the public and private sectors until the end of 2023. This data can be shared on the basis of previously received Kanta information and consent (currently consent to data sharing).

The wellbeing services counties have been given until the end of 2023 to start using the new patient information system version, which contains the new Kanta information. However, the transition period does not apply to the temporary right to access data within the Uusimaa region.

Healthcare and social welfare personnel must be able to inform client and patients about the use of client and patient data. More information and a printable information leaflet to support the provision of Kanta information are available on the kanta.fi website.

More information on the new Kanta information and key changes in the transmission of data will be available at the information session about Kanta Services on 9 November.
