Consent to the sharing of prescription data with pharmacies in other EU countries will be removed on 1 January 2023

Notice - Citizens Written on 21.12.2022 All notices

From 1 January 2023, using a Finnish electronic prescription to purchase medicines in another EU country will no longer require your consent to the sharing of prescription data.

From the beginning of 2023, the Act on Electronic Prescription will no longer require separate consent. If you wish to buy prescription medicine in another European country, take your passport or ID card with you to the pharmacy.

If you have set up a denial of consent to prescription data sharing, the information on the prescription in question will not be accessible to the foreign pharmacy. If you wish to purchase medicines with that prescription, make sure you cancel your denials of consent to prescription data sharing before visiting the pharmacy.

The consent you have previously given will be stored for the period required by law, even if it no longer affects the sharing of your prescription data. However, this consent will no longer be displayed on the My Kanta Pages. Read more about the retention of consent and your right to submit a written request to review your data in the privacy policy for the Declaration of intention service.

Medicines can currently be purchased with a Finnish electronic prescription from pharmacies in Estonia, Croatia and Portugal.
