Kanta services in 2026: Introduction of the social services customer data repository and medication list now timely
Kanta services have functionalities that health and social services organisations must implement within the statutory time limits. It is now time to ensure that your organisation is on schedule.
In 2026, the introduction of the social services customer data repository and preparing for the Kanta medication list will be particularly timely. Both will require system changes and planning. With the functionalities introduced comprehensively throughout the country, the Kanta services can be best utilised.
The deadline for the introduction of the social services customer data repository is September 2026. This will mean structured document storage, retrieval of information from the Kanta database, and recording of transfer permits and prohibitions. The customer information system must therefore support these functions. Kanta collects public and private social services’ customer data in a single location. As a result of the change, social services customer data will be easily and securely accessible to professionals.
The anticipated Kanta medication list is progressing. It will be introduced in stages. In 2026, all health and social services organisations must adopt a system version that is able to process the new forms of medication data. The outpatient medication list for health care will be introduced nationally in February 2027, and it must be in use in health and social services organisations in October 2027 at the latest. The Kanta medication list will improve medication safety, as it shows all medicines used by the person in real time.
In early 2027, new transfer permits between the social services and health care sectors and the retrieval of information from Kanta will also be introduced nationally.
– These are thus functionalities of the Kanta services which should now at the latest be ordered and implemented in the systems currently in use, and their introduction planned within the time limit required by legislation, says Service Operations Manager Outi Lehtokari.
Next year, other functionalities of Kanta services may also be introduced in the health and social services sector. They are always communicated on Kanta.fi.
