Social welfare client data in MyKanta

Client data recorded in social services will gradually become visible to clients in MyKanta. Professionals are provided with materials to help them become familiar with the changes and to support them in their work with clients.

Clients can use MyKanta to view data stored about them in the Kanta Services’ Client Data Repository for Social Welfare Services.

The social welfare services client data will become available in MyKanta in stages between 2023 and 2026. The amount of data that is displayed in MyKanta will increase as

  • service providers make the necessary changes to their information systems
  • documents generated in various social welfare services start being recorded in Kanta.
Social welfare services data will be gradually available in MyKanta

At the moment, MyKanta only shows the social welfare client data of the following wellbeing services counties:

  • Kymenlaakso
  • North Ostrobothnia
  • Ostrobothnia
  • Päijät-Häme
  • Satakunta
  • South Karelia
  • South Ostrobothnia.

In other wellbeing services counties, the data will start being available at a later date.

What social welfare services data are displayed to clients in MyKanta?

The client or person acting on behalf a client will be able to use MyKanta to view

  • personal social welfare service documents, such as decisions, service needs assessments, and client plans
  • the start date of the client relationship
  • the case worker’s contact information.

The data can be found in the Social welfare services client data section of MyKanta. Social welfare services client data will be visible to clients even if they do not have a client relationship with social welfare services. In this case, the section will indicate that no data is available.

What social welfare services client data will not be available to clients in MyKanta?

Some of the information recorded in social welfare services will only appear in MyKanta at a later stage. Some information will not be displayed at all.

A client can request data that are not visible in MyKanta from the service provider.

MyKanta will not display the following at all

  • documents related to shelter services and work to prevent domestic violence
  • adoption counselling documents
  • child custody and visitation rights reports and appendices
  • vouchers
  • documents that have been deleted or voided
  • previous versions of amended documents
  • old social welfare services client data and other data recorded in the old format.

MyKanta does not yet display 

  • client report entries, known as ‘daily entries’
  • documents related to a matter concerning several clients. 

Documents related to adoption counselling and investigations into legal parenthood are also not generally shown in MyKanta. However, these documents can be set to be displayed in MyKanta at a later date if a professional considers it necessary.

Is it possible to delay the display of data in MyKanta?

If necessary, you can delay the display of data in MyKanta if there are justifiable grounds to do so. If necessary, you can also permanently restrict the visibility of data by indicating the data as special content.

Always assess the need for a delay on a case-by-case basis. Organisations also often have their own policies for which data is delayed and for how long.

Any incorrect data is to be corrected by social welfare professionals

If there are any errors or omissions in the client data displayed in MyKanta, these usually need to be corrected by the social services unit where the data was recorded. In such cases, the client can contact the professional who made the entry.

In the case of an outsourced service, the responsibility for correcting data ultimately lies with the purchaser of the service, such as a wellbeing services county.

The information package for professionals was compiled to support professionals in their work. It contains general information about social welfare client data in MyKanta. The organisation should also add supplementary information to the document, such as its own delay policies as well as the schedules for starting to display data in MyKanta that have been recorded by different services. Information package is available only in Finnish and in Swedish.
