The Patient Data Repository is more useful when activities, data content or additional services that are essential to the basic operations of the health care service provider are added to the Patient Data Repository. Some activities are statutory.

Information on functionalities
Current functionalities to be deployed
In the future, healthcare appointments will be recorded in Kanta Services. The summarised appointment information will give health and social service professionals a better overall picture of the client’s situation and help to avoid conflicting appointments.
The storage of certificates and statements in Kanta Services will expand with new deployments. Certificates and statements saved in Kanta are available to healthcare and can also be forwarded outside healthcare. The client can view their saved and forwarded certificates in MyKanta.
The storage of imaging documents brings the care documents generated in connection with imaging examinations to Kanta. The request, examination entry and statement complement the images stored in the Imaging Data Repository, allowing the professional to access the images and the related documents in the same place. The client can view the physician’s statements on imaging examinations in MyKanta.
Storage of old patient data in Kanta allows the preservation of data generated before the introduction of the Patient Data Repository in Kanta Services. Through Kanta, the data is available to the healthcare provider in whose register the data has been saved.
The authorisation of a purchased service helps to process patient data in purchased services and in services produced using service vouchers. It allows the service provider to process the necessary data and save patient data directly to the service organiser’s register in Kanta Services.
A structured document for assessing the need for treatment in primary healthcare, oral healthcare and the Medical Helpline has been implemented, and it can be saved in Kanta. The structured assessment data stored in Kanta makes the flow of information and the treatment process consistent between different service providers.
Storage of screenings in Kanta applies to all screening examinations produced by the wellbeing services county itself and as purchased services. The data stored in the Kanta database improves the availability of screening data and supports the implementation of screening examinations.
There is no separate functionality for screening examinations, which means they are stored like other similar documents.

Other functionalities to be deployed
Summaries of key health data provide essential and up-to-date information on the patient’s health status from the data stored in Kanta. The summaries facilitate the search for information and support patient safety, especially when there is a lot of patient information.
Summaries can be generated from several types of data stored in Kanta:
- vaccinations
- laboratory tests
- diagnoses
- procedures
- risk data
- imaging examinations
- physiological measurements.
The storage of oral healthcare data content in Kanta allows the use of oral healthcare data as part of the patient’s other care. Information flows more smoothly between public and private oral healthcare and other healthcare.
Kanta's referral and epicrisis functionality improves the availability of treatment data in healthcare. The referrals and epicrises stored in Kanta can be viewed by the patient in MyKanta.

The Health and Care Plan is a plan produced in outpatient care that outlines the needs, goals and organisation of care. The plan is drawn up together by the patient and a healthcare professional.
The Health and Care Plan can be saved in Kanta's Patient Data Repository, where it can be easily accessed by professionals involved in the patient's care.

The professionals in emergency medical units record the patient care reports electronically in Kanta using the KEJO system, which is a common field system for the security authorities. Storing the data in Kanta improves the flow of information between emergency medical services and other healthcare.
How to start using a functionality
Contact your information system supplier and ensure that the functionality can be deployed in your patient information system.
- Systems in which the functionality in question has been jointly tested can also be found on the Patient Data Repository situation page.
Agree on the deployment of the functionality and the tasks required by this with your system supplier.
Use of the service can be extended as the systems are developed
Health care services may extend the use of the Kanta Services as new data content and functionalities become available for deployment in the systems. The service provider should enquire with their information system provider as to when new functionalities will be available in the patient information system in question.
