The new section provides facts about My Kanta Pages and explains the changes in acting on behalf of a minor in the young people’s own language.

What is My Kanta Pages and what can I get out of it? Who can see my data in My Kanta Pages?

These and many other questions are answered in the new kanta.fi section for young people. In addition to basic facts, the website answers questions that are frequently asked by young people. There is also a video where a young user of My Kanta Pages briefly explains the features of My Kanta Pages.

According to visitor statistics, people under 18 do not use My Kanta Pages as much as other age groups. The users of kanta.fi are also mainly older than this age group.

“On our new pages, we address young people in a punchy way, in a language that is aimed at just this target group. My Kanta Pages is a handy tool also for the young ones because in the service you can see a summary of your own health data,” says Mari Holmroos, Specialist of Kela’s Kanta Services.

Young people may not have the tools required for authentication and for that reason are not using My Kanta Pages. In these cases, it is good if they can view their data together with their parent or guardian in the future.

Acting on behalf of a minor is changing – young people’s right of self-determination has been taken into account

Previously, in My Kanta Pages, a parent or guardian was able to access the data concerning a child under 10 years of age only. As from the beginning of October, they are able to see new data concerning those over 10 years of age after their healthcare unit has made the necessary changes in the patient data system.

However, if a minor is assessed by the healthcare service to be capable of making their own decisions, the minor will have the option of refusing the showing of data for the appointment in question to their parent or guardian.

The case studies on the new website help young people to understand what it means to be capable of making your own decisions and how it is assessed in different situations in the healthcare services.
