Notice - Citizens Written on 19.12.2023 All notices

An adult who is under guardianship may now authorise another person to act on their behalf in MyKanta. The change is part of a Digital and Population Data Services Agency project to promote the use of online services by guardians and those with continuing power of attorney who manage another person’s affairs on their behalf.

If a person is under guardianship, they will be able to

  • authorise their trusted person or guardian to use MyKanta on their behalf
  • use MyKanta on behalf of their child
  • manage matters in MyKanta on behalf of another person, if authorised to do so.

Persons with a verified power of attorney may also grant authorisations.

How do I authorise someone else to act on my behalf in MyKanta?

If you have online banking credentials or a mobile certificate, you can authorise a trusted person by using strong identification to access Suomi.fi e-Authorizations. For authorisation, you will need the person’s name and personal identity code.

The authorisations required for using My Kanta are:

  • Managing matters related to health care
  • Managing matters related to social welfare services.

You can find instructions on Suomi.fi on How to grant mandates independently to manage your own affairs (Suomi.fi).

If you do not have online banking credentials or a mobile certificate, the person to be authorised can request a mandate on your behalf or submit a mandate application with you.

Suomi.fi provides instructions on Granting mandates if you are unable to use electronic services. (Suomi.fi).

Electronic services for guardians and those with continuing power of attorney to act on behalf of other persons are under development

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency will be running a project to promote guardians’ access to electronic services during the period 2023–2025. In the first phase, which is currently under way, persons under guardianship will be able to authorise their guardian to act on their behalf.

In the coming years, guardians and those with continuing power of attorney will be able to act on behalf of their client without separately granted Suomi.fi authorisations in matters within the remit of the guardianship.

If you are acting as a guardian, you will also be able to manage matters related to health care, social services or pharmacies directly as instructed by your client.
