Kanta Services bring benefits to all citizens

Kanta Services bring benefits to all citizens

With the Kanta Services, patient and client data is shared easily between social welfare and healthcare service providers, pharmacies and citizens. My Kanta Pages is the citizen’s view to their own data.

In both public and private healthcare services, patient data is entered in the Kanta Services, and that way up-to-date data is used throughout the country. In future, all data in the social welfare services will also be entered in Kanta.

Patient safety and knowledge-based management

When patient data is shared seamlessly between healthcare units, the professionals have up-to-date information at their disposal when treating patients. That way, the Kanta Services contribute to the improvement of patient safety and standard of care. In social welfare services, movement of data makes it easier to understand the client’s overall situation.

The Kanta Services and digitalisation also create a basis for knowledge-based management and the use of data for research purposes. When patient and client data is archived in one place, the information can be utilised in the planning, guidance and monitoring of services.

The Kanta Services are an integral part of the enterprise architecture for social welfare and healthcare services, developed together with operators in the social welfare and healthcare sector. Kela publishes the Kanta codes as open source codes.

New Client Data Act will expand the scope of My Kanta Page

My Kanta Pages is the citizens’ view to their own health data. In the future, users are also able to view social welfare visits and data. In addition, it will be possible to monitor personal wellbeing and activity data in My Kanta Pages.

With Kanta PHR, data can be recorded in My Kanta Pages using various wellbeing apps and devices. In the future, citizens may also store data for professional service providers to view. That means that information concerning the client’s own wellbeing and activity can be used as background information, for example, at a doctor’s appointment.

Priorities in 2022

In 2022, the development of the Kanta Services will focus on tasks connected to the health and social services reform and the Client Data Act, among other things.

With the national Kanta solution, data will be available across the borders of the future wellbeing service counties. Kanta and other digital solutions support the work of professionals in the future social and health centres.

Kanta as part of the annual planning of social and health organisations

When a service provider has decided to deploy Kanta Services or a functionality, they register for deployment. The registration is open on a continuous basis, allowing flexible deployment within the provider’s own schedule. Kela co-ordinates and supports deployments.

Social welfare and healthcare service providers should make provisions in their annual planning for the deployment of Kanta Services as well as staff training and the budget required.

International trailblazer

Finland and the Kanta Services are blazing the trail in the international comparison of information management in social welfare and healthcare services. Finland was one of the first countries to introduce e-prescriptions.

The Kanta Services also enable sharing of data between European countries. It is currently possible to purchase medicines with a Finnish prescription in Estonia, Croatia and Portugal. More countries are joining the scheme. In the future, the service can also incorporate a European patient summary for doctors to access the patient’s basic details also in an overseas country.

Kanta is developed in cooperation

The Kanta Services are developed in cooperation between the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, Kela, and operators in the social welfare and healthcare sector. In addition, close cooperation is also conducted with the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health Valvira, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, and the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom. Kela is responsible for maintaining the cooperation.
