Smooth flow of information guarantees best quality of care and services – The Act will enter into force on 1 November 2021

Notice - Citizens Written on 1.11.2021 All notices

The new Act on the Electronic Processing of Client Data in Healthcare and Social Welfare, i.e. the Client Data Act, supports the reform of the healthcare and social welfare services. The objective is client and patient safety and the best possible care and service. The Client Data Act enables even more effective movement of client and patient data between service providers if the client has given consent to it.

Your client and patient data is saved in the Kanta Services. Public and private social and healthcare service providers and pharmacies use Kanta on the basis of legislation. The Kanta Services enable movement of your data between healthcare professionals attending to your care. In terms of social services, this will take place at a later date in the Kanta Services.

With the Kanta Services, your data is processed and stored in a reliable and secure way. The principles of data use are based on the Client Data Act.

As from 1 November 2021, an information text will open in a new window on the home page of My Kanta Pages. It will be possible to log in to My Kanta Pages after the client or a person acting on their behalf has acknowledged receipt of the information text. The information can also be accepted in connection with a visit to a healthcare or social welfare service provider.

You can decide on the use of your data

Your data recorded in the Kanta Services is always accessible by the healthcare and social welfare service provider who has entered it there. During your care, healthcare professionals can also use your prescription data and data that has been recorded of you in the regional patient register in public healthcare without your specific consent. Your data can only be viewed by the professionals who you are dealing with or who are attending to your care.

Professionals attending to your care may also use your other patient data recorded elsewhere in the healthcare service if you have given your consent to sharing it. You can decide yourself which of your data in the Kanta Services can be shared with professionals. You can manage the use of your data by giving your consent to data sharing or issuing denials of consent in the healthcare service or in My Kanta Pages. By giving your consent to data sharing, you will ensure that all healthcare units you visit have sufficient and up-to-date information about you.

Consents given before the new Client Data Act enters into force will remain in force and they will automatically become consents to data sharing. Moreover, denials of consent to data sharing issued before the new Act becomes effective will also remain in force as such. Consents and denials of consent to data sharing will be valid until further notice and they can be withdrawn.

See your data in My Kanta Pages

My Kanta Pages is your view to your own health data. In the future, the data of social services will also be shown in My Kanta Pages. My Kanta Pages can be accessed at the address kanta.fi. You can check in My Kanta Pages or ask the healthcare service for information about in which healthcare units your data has been used. Consents and denials of consent to data sharing can be issued in the new section of My Kanta Pages under Management of Data Use (previously Consents and Refusals).
