Criminals are phishing for banking codes on the pretext of COVID-19 passport by offering help in the use of My Kanta Pages

Notice - Citizens Written on 10.12.2021 All notices

Fraudsters are phishing for banking codes by offering telephone help in retrieving the COVID-19 certificate from My Kanta Pages. Never give your banking codes to outsiders.

The purpose of the scam is to phish for personal details and banking codes. Employees of the Kanta Services or Kela never ask for usernames, passwords or PINs for logging in to personal services.

If you receive a suspicious phone call where the person claims to be calling in an official capacity, do as follows:

  • Hang up, and do not give the caller any personal information.
  • If you have given the caller any information which they can use to access your bank account, notify your bank at first and then call the police.
  • For more advice, see the guide for data breach support at tietovuotoapu.fi.
  • Also report the scam to the customer service of the organisation that the caller claimed to be from.

Kela is currently investigating the matter with the other authorities.

Persons who are unable to use My Kanta Pages themselves or to authorise another person to use it on their behalf can get a paper COVID certificate from the health centre of their own municipality. Municipalities provide guidance on local practices, for example, on their website.

The EU Digital COVID Certificate available from My Kanta Pages is used as a COVID-19 passport in Finland, and it is also needed when travelling abroad.
